David Taylor, Pastor and Evangelist, Brings Community Relief to Those Most in Need

David Taylor, Pastor and Evangelist, Brings Community Relief to Those Most in NeedSometimes an act of God is the summons to an act of faith, or so Pastor David E. Taylor, leader of Joshua Media Ministries International, believes. In September 2022, as Hurricane Ian barreled across the Atlantic Ocean leaving a swath of destruction in its wake, Pastor David Taylor heard the call.

Classified as a Category 4 hurricane, Ian was the deadliest hurricane to strike Florida since Labor Day in 1935. As of Nov. 1, 2022, the hurricane’s recorded death toll reached 157 casualties. Florida suffered the vast majority of deaths, with others occurring in North Carolina, Virginia, and Cuba. Widespread power outages, compounded by crippling damage to roads, bridges, and other infrastructure, resulted in a crisis situation.

In response to the devastation, Pastor David E. Taylor quickly mobilized JMMI’s boots-on-the-ground disaster relief team, dubbed the Convoy of Miracles, to bring vital aid to Hurricane Ian’s victims.

After Pastor David E. Taylor put out the word, vast quantities of essentials, including fresh water, personal hygiene products, clothes, diapers, blankets, and cleaning supplies, began to pour in from concerned members of his congregation. The bounty, collected and loaded by volunteers into the ministry’s signature white-and-gold 18-wheeler, was soon on the road from its northeastern Michigan headquarters to the heavily-impacted areas of South Florida, where the crucial cargo was distributed among those most urgently in need.

“These precious families have been without the bare essentials,” the JMMI website states. “Imagine if it was you, your child, or your family and loved ones in this condition? How would you want someone who had the ability to help respond to you?”

Throughout his 30 years of ministry, Taylor has focused much of his energy on helping troubled youth from marginalized communities break free from the violent, oppressive cycle of drugs and sex trafficking. As a one-time gang member who made it out, Taylor understands their plight firsthand, and he thanks God every day for showing him the righteous “face-to-face” path with Jesus that helped him escape the mean streets of Memphis, Tennessee, not only saving his life, but his eternal soul.

As an ardent and committed spiritual leader conducting prayer services via JMMI’s dedicated media outlets, David E. Taylor preaches the gospel to a global flock of enthusiastic followers, but he’s also earned a real-world reputation as a serial good Samaritan and volunteer who routinely champions worthy causes within the community. “We must take care not only of the sick, but the hungry, and the poor,” says Taylor, who believes the glory of good works belongs to God. “I’ve been doing it for many years. I just don’t broadcast it.”

In 2021, David Taylor, pastor at JMMI, partnered with local police and representatives from the Drug Enforcement Administration and the FBI for a special Thanksgiving turkey drive benefiting friends and family members who suffered the loss of a loved one as a result of violence in their communities.

The sizable holiday giveaway, which took place in the heart of an especially high-risk neighborhood, was a way for David E. Taylor and the generous JMMI congregation to show the grieving relatives that despite turmoil and strife, they still had a message of compassion and hope for healing to offer all who participated in the event.

To commemorate the occasion, a volunteer flew a small plane over the distribution site forming a sign of the cross in smoke, to the delight of the crowd below.

For Christmas 2021, the Convoy of Miracles was back on the road collecting toys, clothing, and shoes for thousands of deserving children and families in need to be distributed at houses of worship, community centers, and hospitals. The Christmas charity drive was greeted with such an overwhelming response, Pastor Taylor says he’s looking forward to making it an annual event.

“He has been helpful to get our boys the shoes they need for school, winter clothes… What an awesome privilege it is to be a part of this ministry,” one thankful mother said.
