Rubio Begins State Department Overhaul to Align With ‘America First’ Policy
Cole Harrison – In Washington, some things seem to grow forever, no matter who is in charge. The permanent political class, a deep swamp of bureaucrats, gets bigger and bigger. It feeds on taxpayer dollars while becoming less and less accountable to the very people it is supposed to serve.
Every election, voters hear promises to take a weed-whacker to this jungle of red tape. Candidates pledge to slash wasteful spending and make government lean. But after the votes are counted, those promises usually fade. This time, however, a promise is being delivered in a big way.
Thanks to a recent Supreme Court decision that swept aside legal roadblocks, the Trump administration is finally cleaning house. The State Department just announced it is firing over 1,300 employees. The long-overdue draining of one of Washington’s deepest swamps has officially begun.
Draining the Foggy Bottom Swamp
Leading the charge is Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who isn’t afraid to call a spade a spade. He correctly labeled the department as “bloated” and “bureaucratic,” declaring his mission is to “make the State Department Great Again.” This isn’t a minor trim; it’s a necessary, top-to-bottom reorganization to serve our nation’s interests.

The State Department will inform employees on Thursday evening that it will soon begin mass layoffs, a document obtained by The Daily Wire shows.
Over 1500 employees will receive “Reduction in Force” (RIF) notices, a State Department official shared with The Daily Wire on Thursday.
The move comes after the Supreme Court lifted a lower court order on Tuesday blocking President Donald Trump from laying off federal workers at almost two dozen agencies, clearing the way for the president to move forward with his plans for reorganizing and downsizing federal agencies.
Results, Not Red Tape
This historic action is not about cutting jobs for the sake of it. It’s about getting better results for the American people. Layoff notices are going out to 1,107 civil servants and 246 foreign service officers in roles that are either redundant or misaligned with America’s core national interests.
As Secretary Rubio bluntly stated, the department’s domestic operations had ballooned, leading to “more bureaucracy, higher costs, and fewer results for the American people.” This move is a decisive step to end that waste and refocus our diplomatic efforts on what truly matters: promoting America’s interests and keeping Americans safe.
For years, conservatives have been told that shrinking the federal government is impossible. This move proves that with strong leadership, the swamp can be drained. It is a powerful victory for fiscal responsibility and a clear sign that under President Trump, promises made are promises kept.
