The AI Axe Will Fall First on Bureaucrats and JournalistsChristopher Chantrill – I was reading a piece about EA — Effective Altruism — its intellectual godfather the utilitarian philosopher Peter Singer, and how billionaires from Elon Musk to SBF are directing billions into solving global poverty with EA. Then all of a sudden the writer swung into a discussion of AI — Artificial Intelligence — and the challenge of saving the world when AI really gets going.

Schools Using Facial Recognition, AI Tech To Monitor KidsNiamh Harris – Parents and students alike are growing increasingly concerned about the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies at school.

According to a survey by the Center for Democracy and Technology (CDT) more than half of parents and students surveyed were concerned about the use of facial recognition and other AI technologies, including location tracking systems, in schools.

Given Enough Time, AI Would Take Over Every Area Of LifeMichael Snyder – Artificial intelligence is changing our world at a pace that is absolutely breathtaking.  If you would have asked me a decade ago if I would live to see artificial intelligence create a world class piece of art or a full-length feature film, I would have said no way.  But now those are simple tasks for artificial intelligence to accomplish.

So what is going to happen once AI becomes millions of times smarter and millions of times more powerful than it is today?  Given enough time, AI would take over every area of our lives.  Our world is definitely crazy right now, but fifty years from now it would resemble something out of an extremely bizarre science fiction novel if AI is allowed to continue to develop at an exponential rate. Mustafa Suleyman, who previously served as a leading executive in Google’s AI division, DeepMind, says he is deeply concerned that unchecked advancements in AI might are going to lead to new, more lethal biological threats.
