The adorable mix-up: Grandma’s funny surprise with a sneaky ‘cat’

Grandson Tells Grandma One Of Her Cats Isn’t A Cat – And Her Response Is Just Amazing

Christina – Well, that definitely wasn’t a cat. So Eric Hertlein’s grandma, a Kansas resident with a heart as big as her porch, is known for her tender care of stray cats. She’s got beds, she’s got food, and heck, she’s even got an open invitation into her home for these feline wanderers. But little did she know, she was extending her hospitality to a sneaky animal in disguise!

When Eric popped over for a visit like he usually did, he expected the usual scene: a warm welcome from Grandma and a cozy congregation of cats lounging about. What he didn’t expect to find snuggled among them was a furry interloper of the marsupial variety – an opossum, to be exact. Continue reading

Shelter’s Unique Efforts to Find a Home for Bonded Cats

See The Shelter’s Wacky Plans To Get Them Adopted

Christina Williams – Imagine two fluffy friends, bonded for life, in need of a home together. So a shelter cooked up as many ideas as they could to find the pair a home together.

Marcell and Aspen’s story began at a New York animal shelter, where they were first adopted separately by a kind older man named Bruce who was grieving the loss of his dog. He walked into the shelter hoping to find a friend or two to keep him company. “He was lonely and depressed,” said Lynda Pruski, executive director of the shelter. Bruce left with both cats, and for four years, the trio shared a quiet, happy life. Continue reading

From Newton’s Spithead to Willard’s Paper: Cats in Physics

From Newton's Spithead to Willard's Paper: Cats in PhysicsInteresting Facts – Cats certainly aren’t unknown in the world of physics. Isaac Newton had a cat named Spithead (and supposedly created a cat door for him), while Albert Einstein once said that only two things provided refuge from the misery of life: “music and cats.” Of course, the most famous example is Schrödinger’s cat, a thought experiment devised by Austrian physicist Erwin Schrödinger to explain the complexity of quantum superposition.

But none of these cats, whether real or allegorical, has ever written an influential physics paper. That distinction belongs solely to F.D.C. Willard, a Siamese cat otherwise known as Chester.

Ancient Egyptian Cats: From Hunting Prowess to Divine Status

Ancient Egyptians shaved their eyebrows when their cats died.

History Facts – Though ancient Egyptians didn’t literally worship cats, they did see them and other animals as symbols of the gods’ divine qualities. They admired felines as much for their hunting prowess as they did for the way they nurtured their young, and both aspects factored into their reverence.

Their devotion was so fierce, in fact, that they shaved their eyebrows when their own cats died — the beginning of a mourning period that didn’t end until their eyebrows grew back.

Keeping a cat in one’s home was considered a way of both attracting good fortune and warding off evil spirits, and a cat’s passing was considered a significant loss — many Egyptians even mummified them. Continue reading

Yes, Your Cat Loves & Sees You As A Parent, Here’s The Study To Prove It

catJoe Martino – I have had cats my whole life, currently 3 cats live in my house, and throughout the years I have always told people that cats are often misunderstood. I’d say this because so often people would say they didn’t like cats because they were no fun, didn’t like humans and cared only of themselves.

I mean this light-heartedly, cat skeptics out there would go as far to say that cats even have no personality! For me, someone who has been around cats their whole life, I say there’s no way that is accurate – even in cases where cats are a bit difficult.

Before we get to this fun research, I’ve never really viewed myself as a cat owner… honestly, my 3 cats live with me and my life partner, we don’t own them – that’s our perspective at least. If you asked me, our cats deeply have a connection with me and my partner, and that’s completely regardless of if they have been fed yet or not. Continue reading
