slaveryJoseph P Farrell – Many people shared this story this week, and it’s so unusual that I have to give a major caveat, since there are so many people who do not “get” our high octane speculation mode here, or who are unfamiliar with it. For the record, I am inclined to be highly skeptical of such stories as this because, in effect, they are of the type that seem designed to confirm one’s “worst or most speculative suspicions.” The story here is of this type. Worse, the story here is one of those one frequently encounters: the “source” is anonymous, and the alleged victim is also anonymous. For these reasons, I am highly skeptical of it; however, it does raise conceptual and organizational issues in its own right – whether the story itself is true or not – for our high octane speculation mode.
