The “Miracle Cure”: Walking

exerciseCharles Hugh Smith – While selling health-related “miracle cures” of one kind or another is big business, the real “miracle cure” is activity/exercise. The essential role of exercise/fitness is backed up by a large and growing body of evidence. It’s now apparent that humans are “born to walk” and need to stay active to be healthy: eating well isn’t enough.

If we apply the foundational processes of evolution to our own health, we end up focusing on the critical role of activity/exercise in our well-being–and in particular, the impressive benefits of walking.

This includes the impact of exercise on mental acuity/health, as explained in this article: Brains evolved to need exercise Continue reading

Important facts about hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids are very common. Nearly 3 out of 4 people have had hemorrhoids at some point in time. They occur in the rectum and anus. Proper knowledge about the condition, its causes and symptoms help in treating or alleviating the symptoms.

Facts about hemorrhoids

What are Hemorrhoids?

hemorrhoidsHemorrhoids (also known as piles) are swelling in veins in the anal region and lower part of the rectum. Hemorrhoids may be internal (located inside the rectum) or external (developing in the skin around the anus).

They can get stretched and irritated going to the bathroom and hence may hurt.

Hemorrhoids are very common. However, most people feel ashamed to consult a doctor and wait for the condition to heal itself. It’s advisable to consult a specialist for this condition, especially if it’s recurring, rather than live with the pain and discomfort. Continue reading

Signs You’re Out of Spiritual Alignment and Ways to Rejuvenate Connection

tryNick Polizzi – Do you ever get a nagging sensation that something is not quite right inside of you? I’m not talking about a kink in your neck or an upset stomach – this is deeper than that. Maybe it’s a limitation within yourself, or a lack of flow and direction where there once was an abundance.

Familiar with any of those?

Of course you are, because you’re human! If you didn’t encounter occasional slumps, I’d be worried that you had a screw loose.

Inhabiting these earthly bodies on this physical plane, it’s normal to sometimes feel out of alignment with who we truly are. Yes, it’s our responsibility to recalibrate and reconnect whenever we can, but it’s silly to beat ourselves up every time we fall out of the saddle.

The quote below illustrates how these minor setbacks are really an opportunity in disguise: Continue reading

Antibiotics Shown to Impair Memory, Stop Growth of New Brain Cells

antibioticsCarolanne Wright – A new study in the journal Cell Reports has established that antibiotics strong enough to kill off gut bacteria also halt the growth of new brain cells located in the hippocampus — the region of the brain responsible for memory. “We found prolonged antibiotic treatment might impact brain function,” says senior author Susanne Asu Wolf of the Max-Delbrueck-Center for Molecular Medicine in Berlin, Germany. And the researchers think they know why — in short, a unique white blood cell that functions as a go-between for the brain, immune system and gut. The good news is the team also discovered two remedies which can reverse the damage.

How the Gut Affects Memory and Brain Health

In the study, the researchers gave mice enough antibiotics to nearly destroy all intestinal microbes. When compared to the control mice, those who lost their healthy bacteria performed worse in memory tests, and the production of new brain cells (neurogenesis) stopped within the hippocampus. “At the same time that the mice experienced memory and neurogenesis loss, the research team detected a lower level of white blood cells (specifically monocytes) marked with Ly6Chi in the brain, blood, and bone marrow. So researchers tested whether it was indeed the Ly6Chi monocytes behind the changes in neurogenesis and memory,” reports Science Daily.

Restoring Your Health Through Nutritional Movement

Dr. Mercola – “Exercise less, move more” and “nutritional movement” — these are innovative concepts that have been popularized by Katy Bowman, author of “Move Your DNA : Restore Your Health Through Natural Movement,” whom I first learned about from readers commenting on my articles.

movement

Katy is a biomechanist by training, but refers to herself as a movement ecologist. Biomechanism is a rather specialized academic path where you study physiology and anatomy through a filter of geometry and physics.

“It’s kind of understanding how physiology and physical forces work together,” she explains.

“Most people are probably familiar with biomechanics in sports performance. A lot of people use biomechanics experts to help modify their golf swing …

A lot of people will take a class or two in biomechanics as they make their way through different healthcare modalities. But that was my entire focus. My undergrad and graduate school was just studying biomechanics.”
