Mary Villareal – A recent survey by a German newspaper found that at least 15 people have been taken into quarantine facilities in some of the largest cities since the beginning of the year.
The individuals, who were said to have violated home isolation requirements, include 11 from Munich, two from Stuttgart and one each from Dusseldorf and Frankfurt.
The number is likely higher, however, as cities like Berlin and Leipzig have not submitted their numbers to the paper. Continue reading
Arthur Lyons – At least 40 percent of all welfare recipients in German are foreigners, costing German taxpayers more than 4 billion euros every month to pay for the food, education, medicine, and shelter of 2.7 million non-contributing foreigners living in the country, new official reports have revealed.
According to new figures released by Germany’s Federal Employment Agency, three out of four working-age Syrians living in Germany are supported entirely or partially by the country’s welfare system, Hartz IV, Die Welt reports.
As of June 2018, the official unemployment rate for Syrians in Germany was 44.2 percent, slightly down from last year’s figure of 49.6 percent. However, as the report points out, the figure isn’t exactly truthful because Syrian migrants who attend state-funded ‘integration courses’ or ‘vocational language courses’ are not regarded as unemployed, but instead as ‘underemployed persons.’ Continue reading
Joseph P Farrell – Well, this is a bit of a “fun” story, or is it? I don’t know, which is why I’m filing this one under the “you tell me” category. As Angela Merkel continues to shake both herself and her government apart, there’s been some rather odd “symbolic goings on” in that country. A few days ago I blogged about the intriguing story that Germany has completely rebuilt the facade of the old kaiserlicher Staatsschloss on Unter den Linden in Berlin.
The building had, as its name implies, been the official state residence of the Kaisers until Wilhelm II’s abdication, but it was maintained until after the Second World War when the Communists – who else? – demolished it in an effort that would make Confederate statue destroyers envious, for in its place a monstrosity of a modernist architectural box was built.
