How Covert Agents Manipulate, Deceive, And Destroy Reputations Online

One of the many pressing stories that remains to be told from the Snowden archive is how western intelligence agencies are attempting to manipulate and control online discourse with extreme tactics of deception and reputation-destruction. It’s time to tell a chunk of that story, complete with the relevant documents.

Over the last several weeks, I worked with NBC News to publish a series of articles about “dirty trick” tactics used by GCHQ’s previously secret unit, JTRIG (Joint Threat Research Intelligence Group). These were based on four classified GCHQ documents presented to the NSA and the other three partners in the English-speaking “Five Eyes” alliance. Today, we at the Intercept are publishing another new JTRIG document, in full, entitled “The Art of Deception: Training for Online Covert Operations.”

By publishing these stories one by one, our NBC reporting highlighted some of the key, discrete revelations: the monitoring of YouTube and Blogger, the targeting of Anonymous with the very same DDoS attacks they accuse “hacktivists” of using, the use of “honey traps” (luring people into compromising situations using sex) and destructive viruses. But, here, I want to focus and elaborate on the overarching point revealed by all of these documents: namely, that these agencies are attempting to control, infiltrate, manipulate, and warp online discourse, and in doing so, are compromising the integrity of the internet itself.

Glenn GreenwaldRetired Congressman Ron Paul went on CNN and pointed out something rarely mentioned by the establishment media – Obamacare is the brainchild of the insurance and pharmaceutical industries.

Last December, ace investigative journalist Glenn Greenwald posted a piece at The Guardian giving the low-down on Obama’s healthcare law. Greenwald pointed to senior Democrat Senator Max Baucus and his aide, Elizabeth Fowler, as the driving force behind Obamacare, the government-enforced boondoggle minus a public option salivated over by blindsided socialists far and wide.

“As Baucus himself repeatedly boasted, the architect of that legislation was Elizabeth Folwer, his chief health policy counsel,” writes Greenwald, “indeed, as Marcy Wheeler discovered, it was Fowler who actually drafted it.”

Back in 2009, when Obamacare first began coagulating in the halls of government, Bill Moyers described Fowler as follows: “She used to work for WellPoint, the largest health insurer in the country. She was Vice President of Public Policy. And now she’s working for the very committee with the most power to give her old company and the entire industry exactly what they want: higher profits, and no competition from alternative non-profit coverage that could lower costs and premiums.”

CNN Takes Money From Foreign Dictators To Run Flattering News Stories About Them

Those of you who are regular readers of Natural News – and your numbers are many – may not always agree with points of view expressed here, but we believe you at least consider us a trustworthy news source, a point driven home by the tens of millions of page views we receive every month.

That said, how much trust would you place in us if, say, we were being paid to put out certain information or relate only a singular point of view? We’re guessing that number would be much, much smaller.

Yet that’s what one establishment media organization – CNN – appears to be doing, according to multiple sources who say the network has begun engaging in a practice of killing stories that portray governments and countries which have become the network’s sugar daddies in a bad light.

We’ve previously noted that American journalists are an endangered species (click on the links for stunning details):

If they criticize those in power, they may be smeared by the government and targeted for arrest (and see this).

Indeed, because the core things which reporters do could be considered terrorism, in modern America, they could even targeted under counter-terrorism laws.

And an al-Jazeera journalist was held at Guantánamo for six years, partly in order to be interrogated about the Arabic news network.  And see this.

Experts who write about the truth – without any middleman – are also being harassed (and see this).

Wikileaks’ head Julian Assange could face the death penalty for his heinous crime of leaking whistleblower information which make those in power uncomfortable … i.e.being a reporter.

Former attorney general Mukasey said the U.S. should prosecute Assange because it’s“easier” than prosecuting the New York Times.  But now Congress is considering a bill which would make even mainstream reporters liable for publishing leaked information (part of an all-out war on whistleblowing).

Do you think that I am being melodramatic and over the top?  Think again …

A US air force systems analyst who expressed support for WikiLeaksand accused leaker Bradley Manning triggered a formal military investigation last year to determine whether she herself had leaked any documents to the group.
