Shawn– In a statement released on Monday, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said it was “shocking” that she had to explain to the media why Border Patrol officers needed to protect themselves from violent migrants hurling rocks and other projectiles at them in an effort to storm the border. Nielsen was unapologetic in her defense of the Border Patrol’s use of tear gas, saying it was time for the media and the American people to become aware of some myths currently circulating about the caravans camped out in Tijuana.
“I refuse to believe that anyone honestly maintains that attacking law enforcement with rocks and projectiles is acceptable,” Nielsen said in her statement. “It is shocking that I have to explain this, but officers can be seriously or fatally injured in such attacks.
