A Last Quarter Moon of Realignment, Miracle and Wonder

These are the days of miracle and wonder
This is the long-distance call.
The way the camera follows us in slo-mo
The way we look to us all.

The way we look to a distant constellation
That is dying in a corner of the sky…
These are the days of miracle and wonder
And don’t cry baby don’t cry, don’t cry, don’t cry. – Paul Simon

wonderHenry Seltzer – Tuesday’s Last Quarter Moon comes at an exciting moment in the lunation cycle that began on July 4th, and at quite an interesting time in American politics as well. Everything seems to be up in the air right now, almost literally.

This lunar phase in any case represents a reassessment of existing conditions along the lines of a new perspective, what noted 20th century astrologer Dane Rudhyar called a “crisis in consciousness,” when what has come before this moment in time gets to be viewed from the more experienced perspective supplied by the information gleaned from the cycle thus far.

And to bolster the concept of taking a fresh look at what we have going on, both individually and within our larger social groupings, we have also a close trine between Mercury at 23 Leo and the Uranus- Eris conjunction, their midpoint just a few minutes of a degree different, providing another good dose of the trickster emblem of sudden events leading to unexpected enlightenment, together with the addition of the Feminine Warrior archetype of Eris, oftentimes seen as disruptive, and yet whose more significant meaning is a realignment of values in the direction of deep soul intention, thus paving the way for individual and societal change.

A Last Quarter Moon of Epiphany and Regrouping

quarterHenry Seltzer – Saturday morning’s Last Quarter Moon, taking place quite early on the West Coast and at nearly mid-day for Europe, is another very special lunation that will somewhat try our patience, and where great rewards are available to us when we pay the closest possible attention to our inner motivations. This remains a transformational time period. In this current configuration, there is a huge emphasis on trickster Uranus, bringer of epiphanies regarding the way that we are adjusting to our changes, with the other outer planets of Neptune and Pluto also prominent, and including Saturn. This lunar phase in any case signals a timing when we are shifting in our perceptions, adding things up inside our heads in an entirely new way, in response the accumulated wisdom from the previous three weeks of the cycle, which is to say, based on what is largely an internal vision. We do best at this time when we adhere to the maxim that what goes on deep inside of us, very nearly unseen and unnoticed by our conscious mentality, has more to do with our moods and our triumphs than the rational logic that this culture values so highly, and which yet falls so far short in creating peace of mind within us or between each other, or, indeed, between national and ethnic groupings.

The mystical and numinous archetype of Neptune, quite prominent in the recent Full Moon from the last weekend of the previous month, is triggered once again at this Last Quarter Moon timing, by an unusual set of contra-parallel aspects from a stationing Venus and from Jupiter. Venus is greatly slowing, and is therefore quite potent, getting ready to return to direct motion on Sunday this same weekend. As she stations, Venus aspects Pluto while Mars, close by, does the same. The Sun and Moon in square also aspect Pluto, in an almost exact trine and inconjunct. With both Neptune and Pluto triggered, major changes are once again upon us, although in some sense, of course, they never left; the entire period of these last few years has been about major metamorphosis coming down. There is great joy and yet also tremendous angst in acknowledging our evolutionary destiny. As these cycles of extreme developmental intention constantly remind us, while we honor the transformation that results in the butterfly, we do have to admit that it is not necessarily that much fun to be the caterpillar. A Finely Reflective Last Quarter Moon

Last Quarter MoonHenry Seltzer – Tuesday’s Last Quarter Moon comes along at an extremely interesting time, as we get ready for a new and really quite intense cycle that will take us into the end of the month period and beyond. This lunar phase also signals a shift in point of view when we realize that we are just a little more aware than we were before the cycle started. In this case, we began with the recent Gemini New Moon from mid-June, and we were just at that time coming out of the extended Mercury Retrograde period.

We thus were in the process of mulling over what we had learned during the previous month of that concentrated retrograde period. This July month, toward its ending, we also encounter the timing of a Venus retrograde, beginning on the 25th of July, making us stop and think about key relationships in our lives, and also of a potent stationing Uranus the very next day; as well as Saturn‘s station to direct motion coming up on August 1st. The times are quite intense, and the patterns invoked by this Last Quarter Moon itself are also revolutionary.

The Sun and Moon make a T-square to Pluto, within about two degrees, while Mars is closely trine to Neptune. The Moon is getting ready to connect with Uranus, about four degrees away from the quarter moon, later in this same evening, so that all three outer planets are involved in this configuration.

A Last Quarter Moon Of Changing Perceptions

timeHenry Seltzer – Tuesday morning’s Last Quarter Moon comes along at a very interesting time. We are at a key moment in the very thoughtful Mercury Retrograde period that has been eye-opening, perhaps more so for those who like to look within themselves, and we are also settling into the aftermath of the famous UranusPluto series of exact square formations that finalized last mid-March. At that time, Pluto was at the 15-degree mark of Capricorn, or the 16th degree as I like to call them, in line with the way that these individual degrees of the Zodiac are referenced in the Sabian Symbols oracle.

In thinking of the ongoing metamorphosis that we are in the midst of, we might note that Pluto was closely aspected by Jupiter at the timing of the mid-May New Moon that began the current cycle, remaining at the 15-degree mark of Capricorn, and now retrograde, while in this final quarter moon configuration, the Moon and Pluto form a yod to Jupiter. The Moon also conjuncts Chiron, provided further food for meditation on the subject of inner wounding, as well as the impulse for healing. We are thus in a heightened time of deep reflection that is signaled as well by the culmination of the Mercury Retrograde period, with Mercury standing almost dead-still in the sky, stationing in two days’ time, and opposed to Saturn, equally lending extreme focus. We indeed have quite a lot on our minds, not least the cultural transformation that we are still in the midst of recognizing.
