Lanny Davis And The Year Of Lawyers Living Dangerously

cohenJonathan Turley – For lawyers, it has been a year of living dangerously. The scandals swirling around Washington have left a pile of attorneys accused of false statements, leaks or other improper conduct. The latest casualty appears to be Lanny Davis, who just admitted to not only spreading a false story but then lying about being its source.

Only recently, Davis — a Democratic stalwart who has been a close adviser to the Clintons — announced that he would represent President Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen, free of charge. Davis has steered Cohen into a 180-degree turn from Trump loyalist to chief accuser. He suggested that Cohen could implicate Trump in crimes touching on obstruction, collusion and campaign-finance violations. He caused a firestorm nationally when he suggested Trump knew in advance about Russian hacking of Clinton campaign and Democratic Party emails and also approved the infamous meeting with Russian representatives in Trump Tower.

At the same time, Davis attacked Trump and his counsel as liars, proclaiming that his defense of Cohen is powerfully simple — “it’s about truth, and the power of the truth is what Michael Cohen now has no matter what … Mayor (Rudy) Giuliani invents for a president who’s been known to lie.”

Now, Davis has admitted that he lied, fueling allegedly false stories that have occupied national media coverage for several weeks. Continue reading

The Great American Witness Auction: How Michael Cohen And Others Are Making Millions In A Testimony Market

cohenJonathan Turley – Lawyer Lanny Davis this week became a virtual infomercial for a GoFundMe site. In continuous appearances on every network, Davis shilled for donors for his client, former Donald Trump attorney Michael Cohen.

Such fundraising has become a regular feature of Washington scandals. Almost $2 million has been raised by anti-Trump figures such as former FBI acting director Andrew McCabe, fired FBI agent Peter Strzok and adult film star Stormy Daniels. Trump protégés like Roger Stone similarly are raising money from the other side.

Cohen’s pitch, however, highlights a troubling aspect of these campaigns. They amount to a raw form of buying witnesses. For many, GoFundMe has become a bazaar where one can put money down on the testimony most likely to hurt or help Trump. People poured hundreds of thousands of dollars into the accounts of McCabe and Strzok within the first 48 hours. Continue reading

Levin: Cohen Payment Is Not In-Kind Campaign Contribution, ‘Trump In the Clear’ [Video]

cohenRusty – It’s time to cut through the noise coming from a heavily biased mainstream media and provide some semblance of sanity after Tuesday’s news involving former Trump lawyer, Michael Cohen.

Cohen pleaded guilty to eight counts — two of which were campaign finance violations involving hush money for women alleging they had extramarital affairs with Trump.

Cohen believed the affairs could have been detrimental to the 2016 presidential campaign. He stated in court that he made the illegal campaign contributions “in coordination and at the direction of a candidate for federal office.”

Naturally, the impeachment-obsessed left wants to know how that will lead to the downfall of President Trump.

Sad news to report, libs. It won’t. Continue reading
