The Real Enemy Is Within

Chris Hedges – If you are not dedicated to the destruction of empire and the dismantling of American militarism, then you cannot count yourself as a member of the left. It is not a side issue. It is the issue. It is why I refuse to give a pass in this presidential election campaign to Bernie Sanders, who refuses to confront the war industry or the crimes of empire, including U.S. support for the slow genocide carried out by Israel against the Palestinians. There will be no genuine democratic, social, economic or political reform until we destroy our permanent war machine.

warMilitarists and war profiteers are our greatest enemy. They use fear, bolstered by racism, as a tool in their efforts to abolish civil liberties, crush dissent and ultimately extinguish democracy. To produce weapons and finance military expansion, they ruin the domestic economy by diverting resources, scientific and technical expertise and a disproportionate share of government funds. They use the military to carry out futile, decades-long wars to enrich corporations such as Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, Raytheon and Northrop Grumman. War is a business. And when the generals retire, guess where they go to work? Profits swell. War never stops. Whole sections of the earth live in terror. And our nation is disemboweled and left to live under what the political philosopher Sheldon Wolin calls “inverted totalitarianism.” Libertarians seem to get this. It is time the left woke up. “And now we have a police state forming under the Department of Homeland Security, all “justified” by the “War on Terror” and its spawn, the PATRIOT Act. MOLON LABE, antarget shootind the new movie, MIDNIGHT RIDE, will fill you in on the details as to what the Constitution says about all this, especially the Militia System and Martial Law. Follow the progress via MidnightRide.us.” – J Jaeger

Daily Bell: How are you? Any new projects in the works?

JamesJaegerJames Jaeger: I’m fine. Been very busy with the release of MOLON LABE and a number of shorter documentaries the past year. MOLON LABE – How the Second Amendment Guarantees America’s Freedom was inspired by Edwin Vieira‘s book, The Sword and Sovereignty and the movie we are working on is tentatively entitled, MIDNIGHT RIDE – When Rogue Politicians Call for Martial Law.

MOLON LABE and MIDNIGHT RIDE are sister films. MOLON LABE explains what the Second Amendment and Militia Clauses are and MIDNIGHT RIDE explains what will happen if WE THE PEOPLE fail to apply them. The new movie is inspired by Dr. Vieira’s new, Amazon-available book, By Tyranny Out of Necessity – The Bastardy of “Martial Law.”

Daily Bell: Can you expand, please? Is funding an issue? Continue reading

The Military Industrial Complex & Total Collapse

June 5 2014 ~ Today David Stockman warned King World News about the military industrial complex, the CIA, and total collapse. KWN takes Stockman’s warnings very seriously because he is the man former President Reagan called on in 1981, during that crisis, to become Director of the Office of Management and Budget and help save the United States from collapse. Below is what Stockman, author of the website contracorner, had to say in part II of a series of powerful interviews that have now been released.

Eric King: “If the fighting continues in Ukraine, is it just going to continue to be a stalemate over there?”

Stockman: “It could well devolve into a full-fledged civil war, and that would be really unfortunate for the people. … That is the result of the constitutional and political crisis that was provoked last November and December, not by Putin and the Russians, but by the (U.S.) State Department and the CIA and the so-called non-governmental organizations that are swarming all over eastern Europe trying to stir up trouble….

“… It’s an indication that what I call the military-industrial complex, this warfare state with all the spy agencies and this massive war machine that we have, is a dangerous thing to keep in being.  We don’t need it.  It should be demobilized.  It should be dramatically reduced so that the people who operate it aren’t tempted to start stirring up trouble.”

Jonathan Turley ~ Perpetual War And America’s Military-Industrial Complex 50 Years After Eisenhower’s Farewell Address

Jonathan Turley January 12 2014

jonathanTurleyBelow is my article this weekend in Al Jazaerra on the powerful lobby and industry supporting our various conflicts abroad as well as counterterrorism efforts. I previously testified before Congress on this industry and the government’s inflation of counterterrorism numbers to justify huge domestic budgets at the Justice Department FBI, and other agencies. I wrote the article for the anniversary this month of Eisenhower’s famous Military-Industrial Complex speech.

In January 1961, US President Dwight D Eisenhower used his farewell address to warn the nation of what he viewed as one of its greatest threats: the military-industrial complex composed of military contractors and lobbyists perpetuating war.

Eisenhower warned that “an immense military establishment and a large arms industry” had emerged as a hidden force in US politics and that Americans “must not fail to comprehend its grave implications”. The speech may have been Eisenhower’s most courageous and prophetic moment. Fifty years and some later, Americans find themselves in what seems like perpetual war. No sooner do we draw down on operations in Iraq than leaders demand an intervention in Libya or Syria or Iran. While perpetual war constitutes perpetual losses for families, and ever expanding budgets, it also represents perpetual profits for a new and larger complex of business and government interests.

The new military-industrial complex is fuelled by a conveniently ambiguous and unseen enemy: the terrorist. Former President George W Bush and his aides insisted on calling counter-terrorism efforts a “war”. This concerted effort by leaders like former Vice President Dick Cheney (himself the former CEO of defence-contractor Halliburton) was not some empty rhetorical exercise. Not only would a war maximise the inherent powers of the president, but it would maximise the budgets for military and homeland agencies.
