The Influence of Words and Sound on Matter: Egyptian Priestly Wisdom

The Influence of Words and Sound on Matter: Egyptian Priestly WisdomJill Mattson – Magic is a central theme in Egyptian life with “magical words” front and center. The Egyptians keep tedious records of what tiny effects were produced from words, subtle energies, sounds, colors, incense, shapes and
materials. The Egyptian priests acted like scientists – observing, refining and documenting subtle energy uses to expand their ingredients for magical spells. [1]

This knowledge was a highly prized hallmark of the Egyptian society. Egyptologist Gadalla connected words and a healer’s voice quality. “By pronouncing certain words or names of powers, in the proper manner and in the proper tone of voice, a priest/doctor could heal the sick.” [2] Continue reading

The Key Signature of Health: How Music Frequencies Impact Your Well-Being

The Key Signature of Health: How Music Frequencies Impact Your Well-BeingJill Mattson – People ingest sound like you eat food. We don’t just consume with our mouths, but with all of our five senses. We turn into what we tune into. Music is energy, just like food. Before and after you listen to a song, you can look at all of the frequencies in your body and observe tiny changes after listening for just a few minutes.

After learning about BioAcoustics from pioneer Sharry Edwards, a whole new world opened up for me. I discovered that all of my favorite songs are in the key signature of D. Who would think that the key signature in music is something that merits a thought? Yet, I feel great when I listen to music in just one key signature. My body releases endorphins when it hears what it needs for optimum functioning. I am not conscious of it, but my body is aware of the amount of a particular note within a song, aka a key signature. That is amazing. Continue reading

How to Break Free from Hardwired Emotional Patterns

How to Break Free from Hardwired Emotional PatternsJill Mattson – We interact with people, notice when they hurt us, or annoy us. We evaluate situations: “I like this and not that”. We form judgments and make our choices, but is it that simple?

In an example, Sam went to a Tai restaurant, and since Sam didn’t like another Tai restaurant a year ago, Sam is poised not to like this one either. In another situation, Joe lectured Sam many times on the righteousness of his political party. Unknown to Sam, Joe has been minimizing his overzealous opinions. Yet, Sam avoids Joe. If Sam had been open, he and Joe might have enjoyed a great conversation. Somewhere Sam stopped listening to Joe and was unable to register any changes in Joe’s behavior. He is not even aware that he shut the door between Joe and himself. Continue reading

The Fascinating Role of Music in Ancient Egyptian Society

The Fascinating Role of Music in Ancient Egyptian SocietyJill Mattson – The Egyptians used music for all kinds of crazy things

Egypt was a nation that sang. As late as the 1900s sailors sang when starting their voyage, sang again if there was danger and yet they enjoyed another song another after the danger had past. [1] There were songs for funerals, hymns, festivals, being in love, prayers to the gods, rituals and dancing. The Egyptians sang as they sowed, harvested, wove, fished, tended flocks, carried heavy rocks and labored. The custom of singing at work was common to every occupation. [2] Continue reading

Balancing Energy: Chinese Music for Every Season

Jill Mattson – The Chinese carefully observed that a particular tone expressed easier, louder and more beautifully during a certain time of the year. That tone (and instrument that produced it) was then associated with that time period. Instrumental music had “prescribed seasons.”

The kung (the tone of creation) and its octave were divided into twelve lesser tones. Each tone was a divine aspect of the master kung tone. Each of the 12 scale tones was associated with a zodiac sign, because the pitch matched the prominent subtle feelings during the predominance of a zodiac sign. For example, certain instruments sounded better during the birth time of Capricorn and others sang sweeter during Aries. Continue reading
