The Facts Behind the Super Bowl Human Trafficking Epidemic

traffickingAaron Cline Hanbury – The Super Bowl (as in the football game coming up this Sunday) is the largest, most-watched single-day sporting event in the world. Given that the Atlanta Falcons haven’t made it to the Super Bowl since 2010, their game against the Patriots on Sunday might just be one of the most tuned into yet.

What lies beyond the public eye is the darker side of Super Bowl weekend. Back in 2013, the idea started to circulate that Super Bowl week might also be the occasion for the highest volume of sex trafficking of the whole year, too. Lately, however, that claim has come into question. Still, no one is questioning the fact that Super Bowl—perhaps like other big events where men are present—sex trafficking is a massive problem. Check the headlines of any of the more recent games and you’ll see significant efforts by host cities to curb the issue.

The Reality

“I would not go along with some of the myths that have been floated out there like that there are tens of thousands of victims brought to the Super Bowl or that it’s the largest human trafficking event,” says Nita Belles, managing director of anti-trafficking nonprofit In Our Backyardand author of In Our Backyard: Human Trafficking in America and What We Can Do to Stop It. Child Sex Trafficking & Cognitive Dissonance

traffickingDouglas Hagmann – Human trafficking and in particular, child sex trafficking, is an incredibly difficult topic to contemplate and even more difficult to discuss. It exemplifies the absolute worst of humanity. It is the proverbial third rail of societal and political discourse that most people will avoid at all costs. Failing avoidance, cognitive dissonance takes over, for most people cannot fathom this level of human depravity.

But fathom and confront it we must. In so doing, we should expect and will encounter denials, pushback, accusations of “fake news” and claims of hyperbole.  Such opposition to exposure is interesting itself, for it originates not just from the usual suspects, but even from many on the “conservative” side of the political and social spectrum. This alone deserves and requires a separate report.

Pizzagate

Many Americans were horrified by the accusations of child sex trafficking and pedophilia associated with “Pizzagate,” a much maligned and equally misused term that was thrust into the English lexicon following the publication of the Podesta emails by Wikileaks last fall. As it quickly trended, Pizzagate embodied a moving target of definitions, activities, individuals and groups, seemingly taking on a life of its own. Continue reading

Trafficking & Sacrifice

sacrifice

Joseph P Farrell – For some reason, this week many people saw and shared stories that are so disturbing in their contents and implications that I hesitate sharing them. But, equally, they are so disturbing and heartbreaking, I hesitate not to share them. Reserving my comments and remarks for later, without any further ado, here are the articles that people shared; the first two articles by Ms. B.H.

Former Army General & President of DynCorp Faces 6 Counts of Rape of a Minor

Most readers here know what I’ve long thought about the connection between abortion, the various scandals like the Franklin scandal or the Penn state scandals, the sale of human baby bodies parts by certain despicable and evil organizations whose name won’t be repeated here. In short, I have thought that all of this – the allegations of sex, slavery and human trafficking, the allegations of sacrifice, and so on, are all connected.
