Nature Heals Best from The Way of the Wizard

The priestess in the Druidic tradition runs her fingers along the rough bark of the ancient Oak Tree, inhaling its ever-so-slight fragrance. Closing her eyes and concentrating on the tree’s smell, she becomes part of this same landscape in her mind. Connected to the oak, time vanishes for the lady…

Soft moonlight shines through the leaves as the white orb reveals its glow underneath the misty clouds. In her mind’s eye, the priestess watches a small herd of deer slip from the woods and stop in front of the giant oak tree; silently they stare at her. They are her brothers and sisters. She joins them in her mind. She lifts her skirt to freely run into the woods, singing and laughing all of the way.

Be Like A Tree – Rooted And Flexible

Together these two qualities provide a strength that allows your trees to reach unparalleled heights in the natural world, receive the nutrients they need from soil and sun, and give generously to the ecosystem around them. They live firmly centered in their own truth, which opens them to receive and share the unceasing flow of life itself. Continue reading

Portland Wokies Target Trees for Racism

racistJessica Marie Baumgartner – Ida B. Wells-Barnett High School in Portland, Oregon is currently delaying the adoption of a new mascot, a tree. In today’s hyperpolitical public education system, it seems that even trees are unable to avoid identity politics.

Students were excited to celebrate natural wonders. Unfortunately, the vote on this resolution was delayed because Portland Public Schools Board of Education Director, Michelle DePass has growing concerns that trees could possibly be seen as a symbol of lynchings from the past.

She commented, “I’ve heard from a couple of community members now about the idea of using a tree — which, of course, I mean, personally, I love evergreens, I’m from Oregon — but using a tree that’s used to lynch people in our mascot, if there was any consideration as to the imagery there, that we’ve all seen from people hanging from trees and using this mascot.” Continue reading
