Your Emotional Intelligence Matters More Than You Think

Emotional IntelligenceRecent studies compiled by the University of Maryland Online Masters in Business Administration program revealed that emotional intelligence, or EI, matters in the work environment. In one of the studies that reviewed manufacturing supervisors, EI training actually resulted in the reduction of lost-time accidents by 50%. Managers can also benefit from having a high level of emotional intelligence, especially since high EI means a better ability to recognize and manage emotions of themselves and their subordinates.

The business world is focusing more on creating a positive working environment where employees can perform well. EI is an inseparable part of that effort. This is also one of the reasons why online MBA programs now include EI-related classes to help students prepare better for the new environment.

You can learn more about emotional intelligence and its relation to various challenges in the workplace from the Emotional IQ and You infographic complied by the University of Maryland.
