Federal Court Orders Secret Podesta Ties Uncovered

justiceJudicial Watch – Judicial Watch today announced that, in an unusual Saturday ruling, U.S. District Court Judge Dabney L. Friedrich ordered the U.S. Justice Department to provide more information about its search of former top Obama DOJ Official Peter Kadzik’s communications with then-Clinton presidential campaign chairman John Podesta, Clinton campaign officials, and others. The court order, issued in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, requires the Justice Department to provide additional details by June 15, 2018.

According to Wikileaks, on May 19, 2015, Kadzik, using a Gmail account, sent Podesta an email appearing to tip off Clintons’ campaign about the Justice Department’s review of Clinton’s emails:

There is a HJC oversight hearing today where the head of our Civil Division will testify. Likely to get questions on State Department emails. Another filing in the FOIA case went in last night or will go in this am that indicates it will be awhile (2016) before the State Department posts the emails. Continue reading

A Pound of Flesh at the Speed of Justice

justiceJon N. Hall – Americans are told they have the greatest system of justice system in the whole wide world. We’re told this, of course, by lawyers. Well, America should have the greatest system of justice on the planet if price has anything to do with it.

The cost of justice, as in hiring a lawyer to look out for you, is especially irksome if one is subpoenaed by a special counsel, like Robert Mueller.

The legal bills of folks like Michael Caputo can ruin a person; an innocent person might even plead guilty just to stop the mounting legal bills. If I were ever to appear before some Grand Inquisitor like Mueller and I knew I were innocent, I think I’d gopro se; i.e. not hire a lawyer and represent myself. Not only that, I wouldn’t bill myself anything, so it’d be pro bono as well as pro se.

Justice in the Wake of ‘Russian Collusion’

obama administrationMonty L. Donohew – For those who believe in the possibility of justice, the Trump administration represents hope.  The perhaps crass and emotional chants to “lock her up” during the Republican presidential primary and subsequent general election were not just expressions of frustration with what many saw as a lawless and corrupt administration, they were expressions of hope – hope that a Justice Department would enforce the law.

The Obama administration’s sheer number of eerily similar scandals paints a dark picture of a politicized Justice Department corruptly protecting administration friends and those with whom the administration was ideologically oriented.  The first prominent act of Obama Justice set the standard – sanction rather than prosecution of unlawful activity – by refusing to enforce a Bush administration judgment against the New Black Panther Party for violating the Voter Rights Act.  The violation was obvious, evidenced by photographic evidence and supported by numerous corroborating witnesses, including the testimony of a veteran Democratic civil rights activist. Spring Equinox 2017

birdsLaurie Baum – Greetings!

The Spring Equinox arrives on Monday, March 20, 2017. As the days grow longer under the nurturing light of the sun, please focus this increased energy on your positive thoughts, intentions, and prayers!

As I was contemplating the spring astrological forecast you are now reading, it occurred to me to look to Mother Nature for insights into the chaotic state of current world events. Given that astrology correlates natural phenomenon (planetary movements) and human affairs, I figured that answers to widespread imbalances in our world could be represented symbolically in nature. “As above, so below,” says the ancient philosophical principle.

At that moment, two small birds gracefully flew onto on a branch of a palm tree outside of my house. They were happily chirping until a big black crow swooped down upon them and replaced the two little birds on their branch. The big crow triumphantly (although only momentarily) sat on the branch, as if s/he was the new proud owner of the position. The two unseated birds, however, started “tweeting” loudly (pun somewhat intended). Within seconds, more than a dozen little birds, furiously fluttering their wings, arrived on the scene. They tweeted unrelentingly until the big black bird flew off. Then the small birds reclaimed their branch.

The Justice System Is Criminal

Paul Craig Roberts – On January 23, 2017, I asked, “Are Americans Racists?” I pointed out examples where racist explanations prevail over empirical fact. I did not write that there is no racism in America. I said that racism is not the be-all and end-all explanation of American history and institutions. The point I made is that racist explanations are often inadequate and both work against racial harmony and blind us to more general and more serious problems.

Perhaps the worst of America’s failed institutions is the criminal justice system. The US has the largest prison population in the world, not only as a percentage of the population but also in absolute numbers. “Freedom and democracy” America has an absolute larger number of incarcerated citizens than “authoritarian” China, a country with four times the US population.

Many factors contribute to this result. One is the privatization of prisons, which has turned them into profit-making enterprises ever needful of more labor to exploit, which adds to the pressure for convictions. Another factor is the disregard of the protective features of law in order to more easily pursue demonized offender groups, such as the Mafia, child abusers, drug dealers and users, and “terrorists.” Lawrence M. Stratton and I describe the transformation of law from a shield of the people into a weapon in the hands of the state in our book, The Tyranny of Good Intentions.

This transformation did not occur because of racism. It occurred because chasing after devils and convicting them became more important than justice. Today the criminal justice system is largely indifferent to a defendant’s guilt or innocence. This is a far worst problem than racism. It is the main reason that there are so many false convictions in the US and so many wrongfully convicted Americans in prison. Indeed, even the guilty are wrongfully convicted as it is easier to frame them than to convict them on the evidence.

To be clear: The primary reason for wrongful conviction is that the success indicator for police, prosecutor, and judge is conviction, not justice. Crimes are solved by wrongful convictions. High conviction rates boost the careers of prosecutors, and high profile convictions boost their political careers. The key to rapid and numerous convictions is the plea bargain. And plea bargains suit judges as they keep the court docket clear. Today 97% of felony cases are settled with a plea bargain. This means police evidence and a prosecutor’s case are tested only three times out of 100. When the evidence and case are tested in court, the test confronts a vast array of prosecutorial misconduct, such as suborned perjury and the withholding of exculpatory evidence. In America, everything is loaded against Justice.
