I.G. Farbensanto At It Again: Seed Exchanges In Africa Under Pressure

seedJoseph P Farrell – It appears that big “agribusiness” – which we less-than-lovingly refer to here on this website as I.G. Farbensanto – is at it once again, using its usual bag of dirty tricks to attempt to outlaw normal seed exchanges in Africa (whew! is that the distinct whiff of imperialism and even racism that I smell here? Sure smells like it). At least, it is if the following article shared by Mr. V.T. is true:

Monsanto and Big Ag Colonizing Africa, Criminalizing Traditional Seed Exchanges

Just in case you missed how utterly draconian their policies are, and how utterly immoral and out of touch with humanity they are, consider these opening paragraphs of the article, noting in particular the use of GMOs as part of John Perkins’ “economic hit man” strategy:

Of the many concerns surrounding the dominance of agrichemicals companies and GMO foods, the most frightening dimension is that corporate manufactured seed is wiping out global biodiversity in food crops and creating a punitive legal framework for our total dependence on these companies for food. You Can Be a Gardener

seedOne of the most beautiful occupations on Earth is that of the gardener.

You may witness as a small seed turns into a sprout, and then becomes stronger, striving to reach for the sunshine faster and faster. In the meanwhile, the gardener protects, nourishes and helps the small plant to develop as best as it can. Thanks to the diligent work of the gardener, the small plant grows into a mighty tree, offering cool shadow in the hot summer days and delicious fruit in the autumn, thus rewarding the hard work of the gardener.

The tiny seed of Truth is found in every human being, including, naturally, the Wanderer. Similarly to the seed of a tree, the tiny seed contains great potentials. If the Wanderer protects and nourishes that tiny seed, it will grow into the mighty tree of Truth. Continue reading

76% Of Seed Market Is Patented By Corporations: Save The Seeds!

“Prior to this big business takeover of farming, people worked the land, saving seeds from year to year. They carried varieties from their ancestors into modern times through these seed saving practices. For many, the practice is alive and well. For others, it needs to be rekindled.” ~E. Renter

SeedsControlBy6CorpsOver 90% of the crop varieties grown a century ago are no longer used in this country; many aren’t even maintained in seed storage facilities. In addition to that, just 6 companies in the world have patented most of the seeds grown in the entire global agricultural market. Our food diversity is crumbling and it’s largely because corporations, not people, are in charge of the supply. But saving seeds in your vegetable garden or on your small family farm could potentially sustain the current diversity and slow or even reverse the degradation of our food supply.

Natural Society’s own Christina Sarich recently reported for Nation of Change how corporations own the seeds. These companies, like Monsanto, Dupont, Dow, and Bayer, have helped to whittle away at the heritage of global food, all in an effort to maximize profits. (Also, here are the top 10 companies ruining the natural world with pesticides – companies which also own the seeds).

“The very act of trying to patent seeds developed over thousands of years, if not millennia, has created a devil’s lair,” reports Sarich. “Plant GMO seed that is ‘herbicide resistant,’ watch it fail, even though millions of tons of glyphosate based toxins were sprayed on crops, then create yet another batch of toxic chemicals to try to control the new super weeds created by corporate greed.”

Venezuela Goes For Ban On GM Seeds

Nation Of Change June 2 2013

Bolivarian University of VenezuelaVenezuela is going forward in the defintive elaboration and approval for a law guaranteeing security and sovereignty against the threat of transgenic seeds, said Socialist deputy Alfredo Urena.

Urena said in an interview to Venezolana de Television how important this is to preserve the biological diversity of the nation and food sovereignty, since the transgenic seed market is under the monopoly of a few transationals, such as renowned enterprise Monsanto.

The new legislation would protect small and medium producers, favour the use of seeds for the environment and human health, and the creation of an institution working on the topic, he said.

Urena said the law project – included last year in the parliamentary agenda – should be in general discussion next month, and includes the foundation of a National Seed Institute that legalizes and certifies agricultural production in the country.
