Susan Alexander’s fascinating DNA music

DNAJill Mattson – Again, a scientific team measured four base DNA molecules: adenine, cytosine, guanine and thymine. Each molecule after being subjected to light, yielded about 15 or 18 frequencies; 60 in all. These notes could not be found on our pianos.

The tuning system on ordinary keyboards is an artificial one, based on and adapted from the natural harmonic series. Around the time of J.S. Bach, equal temperament as a favored tuning system came into being to solve the problem of modulating through different keys. (Bach did not entirely welcome it. Its sound was inferior to the sweet concordances of just intonation). Continue reading

DNA set to music

soundJill Mattson – This week we are going to explore DNA set to music…What a fascinating idea!

Biologist, Dr. David Deamer, measured the vibrational frequencies of the four DNA molecules and translated them into sound. Susan Alexjander’s web site, “Our Sound Universe,” describes this DNA music. I will summarize some of her information here!

A team “collected” frequencies from the bases of DNA with a spectrophotometer, a device about the size of a breadbox. Once the frequencies were captured, the frequencies needed to get within our hearing range. Continue reading

Medicine Words

wordsJill Mattson – Today we believe that words enable us to communicate; the word has a symbolic meaning. In ancient times, they knew a secret that words had vibratory energy contained within each sound packet.

To unlearn ordinary methods of talking with symbolic words, the Pythagorean school had initiates (students) refrain from all speech for the first five years to learn the reticence of speech, to be able to keep the schools mysteries, strengthen silence and focus on the power of each different sounds/words. Agg! Could you imagine voluntarily not speaking for five years!

Listen to Sounds Within!

listen insideJill Mattson – People are often uncomfortable with silence. We live our lives surrounded by lawnmowers, traffic, TV’s, sirens, mp3 players and horns. We are not accustomed to hearing silence and subtleties in ourselves. How could we be?

Many find comfort with constant noise and keep the TV on for long hours. Do we like distractions to avoid the experience of silence? Do we try to escape silence to avoid vulnerability?

Our feelings more readily surface in quiet moments. What do we hear in the silence? Do we hear our consciousness? Experience innermost thoughts? Feel our emotions? Continue reading

The Influence of your Name

Your Name. Does Your Name Define You?  Ancient Civilizations May Hold the Answer

soundJill Mattson – Ancient people used sound and music to heal, balance and uplift their worlds. One crucial way was to properly use the sound of one’s name. The sound of one’s name is a constant energy-influence for one’s entire life, because of the sheer number of times it is heard.  In ancient times, how one said his name was crucial, as it described his energy to others. They guarded against saying their name in combination with negative emotions, as these subtle energies intermingled. They would, however, say their name with love to uplift their subtle energy communication, or utter their name with the feeling of power to assert their authority.

Reflect on how you say your name. When you introduce yourself to others, does your name sound like a question or a request for approval from others? Is it a warm and inviting sound? We can easily perceive how others react to us – all on their own, yet this subtle art that we are discussing arms us with the power to put out a vibratory field in our voice so that others react to us – as we decide.
