When it comes to technology, many of us can only think of the ways that it’s negatively impacted our lives instead of positively. In reality, although there are many examples of technology setting us back, and even disconnecting from each other, there are many ways that technology has deeply enriched our live.

From the way that we talked to other people, to the development of AI chatbots, technology has been a favorable influence in more ways than one. Here are some of the positive impacts of technology on society, and on people’s lives as a whole.

Younger generations may not realize the inconvenience of communicating with people in other countries or cities only a few short years ago. Not only was it extremely expensive to call somewhere else in the world, but we often had a bad connection, and certainly no option for video.

Now, thanks to free messaging platforms, we can call and message anyone in the world totally free of charge. This was especially beneficial during events like the worldwide lockdown during the coronavirus pandemic. People were able to communicate with the people they loved free of charge and felt support and love regardless of many of us being physically alone.

Access to Knowledge

Once upon a time, knowledge was considered a luxury. You had to go to school in order to learn about a specific subject or topic. Now, thanks to access to the Internet, conceivably anyone can learn about something free of charge. The internet promises access to information whether from a phone or computer from anywhere in the world that you have an Internet connection. This has completely changed the way that the world works, as now, people can learn just about anything regardless of their financial status or location in the world.

For students who must complete a paper, or present a report, this access two knowledge is indispensable. No longer do they have to flip through encyclopedias or go to the library for their information, it’s just simple as looking online and citing the source.

More Efficient Systems

In the absence of technology, businesses like law offices and medical clinics would be a logistical nightmare. With all of the patients and files required to keep running, keeping a physical copy of all of them would be slow, and extremely wasteful. Thanks to digitized files, businesses run much smoother and faster, not to mention it saves everyone time— including clients.

In addition to saving physical space, automation has also saved humans hours and hours of work that they would have spent manually completing things like taxes, or billing. More time saved on tasks like these means more valuable time on things that matter most, like connecting with friends and family or pursuing our passions.
