Coffee is a staple for millions around the world and it’s not just because of its taste. Beneath the mix of milk, caffeine and sugar, yields a plethora of health benefits for our body.

Research from around the world has constantly shown how drinking coffee aids in lowering blood pressure, decrease blood fats as well as burn fat. However, it is important to know that these benefits actually come from the coffee and not the 200 ml of milk, sugar and syrup that a lot of us add to our coffee everyday. After all, sugar can add to the number of calories if you’re not careful.

Instead, you should focus on the types of coffee that are most beneficial to your overall health and coffee lovers blog recommends the following:

Latte

This is a shot of espresso with two parts of frothed milk. It has 120 calories and 7 grams of fat and the calories are reduced to 70 calories with virtually no fat for a small-sized skim milk base serve. Indeed, a good source of calcium.

Flat White

A shot of espresso that’s complete with two parts steamed milk. Similar nutritional content to that of latte including 120 calories and 7 grams of fat. Switching over to skim milk shrinks the calories to 70 calories with barely any fat, although some of that fat can help keep you full.

Macchiato

Here’s a shot of coffee with a dash of milk that contains about 13 or 18 calories depending on whether the milk that is added is either skim or full cream. The only downside to this coffee is that many will be tempted to add sugar, which can add up to 15 calories per teaspoon.

Cappuccino

A shot of espresso with 1/3 froth and 1/3 milk, that’s slightly lower in calories than a flat white or a latte with 110 calories and 6 grams of fat with full cream milk but with a slightly lower calcium content than both a flat white and latte as a cappuccino contains slightly lessmilk.

Mocha

This is a latte with an extra shot of chocolate syrup that’s been added. It contains a significant number of more calories and carbohydrates than the average coffee with 160 calories and 6 grams of fat for a full cream or 100 calories with almost no fat when taken with skim milk.

Piccolo Latte

A miniature version of the latte with only 45 calories with full cream or 25 with skim. This is an excellent option for those who enjoy the taste of coffee and want to lose weight by skipping out the extra milk and sugar.

Chai Latte

Although this may appear to a “healthy choice,” chai powder, which is found in most coffee shops is loaded with sugar. A small cup of chai will transfer 130 calories and 2 grams of fat into your body but an extra 20 grams or 4 teaspoons of sugar.

Soy Latte

This a latte that is made using soy milk rather than dairy milk. Most soy-based cups of coffee are made using full fat soy milk, which can push up the calories. A small cup of soy milk will give you 80 calories and 3 grams of fat.

Bulletproof Coffee

Bulletproof coffee is a mixture of black coffee with butter and a tablespoon of oil that is popular among paleo fans and is generally used as part of dietary regimen that significantly increases your fat intake at the expense of carbs. It offers about 50 grams of fat and nearly 2000 kJ per serve, used as a breakfast option for a high-fat dietary regimen that could lead to weight gain unless taken as a part of this specific diet.

Long Black

After the macchiato, a long black is a usual favorite among coffee lovers with a shot of espresso that’s slightly diluted with hot water. With  4 calories per serve, minus any sugar and milk, one or two cups of black latte will maintain both your love of coffee as well as keep your diet on track.

  1. Thank you for posting this. You explain it in a wonderful way. I like latte very much. The creamier taste of latte, makes it more special every time I take a sip of it.
