Hillary And The Ghosts Of Watergate

special interestsCharles Hugh Smith – The parallels between Hillary Clinton and Richard Nixon are not legal–they are political: specifically, how can a leader crippled by scandal and cover-ups govern?

In even blunter terms: how can a crippled politico deliver the goods to the special interests who bet their cash and political capital on the politico’s ability to deliver favors?

Among the many ghosts of Watergate, one specter especially haunts Hillary: once the special interests and party stalwarts who defended you through every scandal and every cover-up–month after month and year after year, on the promise that you would deliver the goods upon ascending to the presidency–realize you are too damaged to deliver anything of value to anyone, why would they continue supporting you?

Once a politico has to declare “I am not a crook” based on legalese rather than a moral foundation, that politico’s ability to lead has vanished. Hillary and her supporters rely entirely on legalese parsing of wrong-doing rather than on a self-explanatory, basic moral foundation of right and wrong.

Declaring “I am not a crook” because the wrongdoing escapes prosecution is the same as declaring “I am above the law.” If the foundation of one’s ability to lead is a reliance on legal parsing and allies in the Department of Justice squashing investigations while handing out immunity like candy on Halloween, the political capital required to lead no longer exists.

Ultimately, the President leads by moral suasion. Even the political act of delivering the goods to the special interests that funded your campaign and your wealth must be backed by the moral authority of personal integrity and a morally grounded appeal to the common good.

A politician who has effectively zero personal integrity is only as viable as his/her ability to deliver favors to the few (i.e. special interests) over the objections of the many. A reliance on cold-blooded horse-trading only works if the leader has enough political capital to arm-twist everyone into granting favors to allies and special interests.

Can A Trump Presidency Resurrect the Republic?

GovernmentStupidCartoonNick Giambruno: There is a popular conception that only the “best and brightest” go into government. I think this is a sacred cow that needs to be slaughtered. What’s your take, Doug?

Doug Casey: It’s a real problem when a pernicious myth subverts reality. Everybody believes that the institution of government is like Camelot—a wise ruler assisted by noble paladins. Maybe that meme gained traction in recent times with John Kennedy and his good-looking wife, Jackie. They looked like an ideal couple. They weren’t. But they were a lot better than what followed for the next 50 years…

The fact is that the high levels of government do get people with high IQs. They can pass tests. They’re skilled at manipulating both laws and people. But they tend to be of low moral character, number one. Number two, despite their high IQs, they’re actually quite stupid. Let me explain these things.

From a moral point of view, there are two types of people in the world. People who believe in coercion when dealing with their fellow humans. And people who believe in dealing voluntarily with their fellow humans.

Government is force. The essence of government is coercion. So, people attracted to it are necessarily the wrong kind of people, coercion-oriented people. Government draws much more than its share of criminal personalities.

Stepping Stones

SteppingStonesToday’s world is a bit of a trip, isn’t it?

Everything’s gone mad and there is no moral compass anymore. Anything goes at whatever price, and the utter madness of the train of everything hurtles on along the express way to the cliff edge—and we are the helpless passengers, the impotent and terrified observers of this tragic, horror flick.

We look for solace everywhere, masking our fear with sex, alcohol, drugs and the electronic distractions that shield us from the reality of things.  Meanwhile the train to hell rushes on with the gleaming smile of psychotic celebrities and the strident cheering cries of their sycophantic minions.

Fear We Don’t Need

Stuart Wilde April 10 2013 (Thanks, Soren)

Matrix

We suffer under a pornography of fear, it’s a state sponsored religion, a “blackwash” driven by the agenda oriented bent media that seeks to manipulate people’s ideas and feelings. Fear is how they attempt to subjugate you. We don’t need it infesting our minds and emotions. Most of what you see in the mainstream media’s news is propaganda designed for you to give up your power to the government and the ideals of the foreign infiltrators.

The word “pornography” comes from the Greek word “porneia” which can be translated as “fornication” or “immorality”. And fear mongering is an unwanted fornication, a form of rape, as it penetrates your mind and alters your emotions usually for no reason at all.

It is immoral to scare people for financial reasons or political gain and control. Refuse to be powerless or intimidated, stand your ground and turn the news off, but not before you write in large letters on your TV…. ”F… you and your little dog too.”

The ghouls fire fear as a black mist or cloud. The status quo is a 3-D worldly manifestation of the inner world ghouls, so they operate in tandem. If you feel fear don’t let it linger. Affirm you are strong and brave, look at celestial pictures, put on celestial music, walk in the park, touch a tree, admire an animal in a field. Call a friend you love. Do stuff to get you out of the fear, as almost all the fear you feel is not yours, it’s not real, it’s fired at you by others–ghouls, humans.
