The themes for August are “Change it Up, Create New Space!”Lena Stevens – At this point we are all looking for things to change, for life to get better, for challenges to get easier, for efforts to have success, and to feel stronger, healthier and more motivated in our lives. We could have set the theme for this month as more letting go, more release and more discipline, but really the end result we all strive for is freedom from what holds us back from being able to experience the life we are wishing for.

This month is all about being disciplined and proactive in moving beyond the fixed and calcified places in your life, changing it up, and creating space for something new to actually have room to manifest. We are a culture of clutter, nostalgic in our hoarding of old emotional wounds, physical stuff we can’t seem to let go of, and what we cling on to as security in a changing world.

Our minds are cluttered with worry. Our hearts are cluttered with emotional turmoil. Our spaces are cluttered with stuff we don’t really need. Our plates are cluttered with responsibilities that are not ours. Security is a big theme these days and we are constantly arming ourselves with what we think will protect us from the unknown.

We are now in a time of crisis where, if we don’t release the past, we simply cannot move on. The theme of “change it up” refers to initiating any small change in your life that can represent movement to a larger change down the road. If you can change one thing permanently, this change will begin to inform the other aspects of your life that seem impossibly fixed.

This could be anything from changing the color of your hair to moving something in your environment around, to moving location, getting rid of something in your life that you have been attached to but no longer need, changing your routine, adopting a new practice, eliminating something from your diet or schedule permanently, and the list goes on. The more permanent the change, the more powerful the result.

We are a little worn out by the concept of releasing the past, releasing the past, releasing the past, and tired of hearing the same old phrase. However true this still is, it is time to think of this process of Creating New Space. When you release and neutralize an old negative feeling or attitude from the past, you create the space for a new, more positive experience.

When you rehome a physical possession, you create a physical space for something new. When you release your attachment to a dysfunctional relationship, you create the space for a different relationship experience in your life.

The first part of the month can have us emotionally irritated by the awareness of all the clutter and fixities in our lives. We become painfully aware of where we feel stuck and could feel helpless around positive solutions.

The full moon on the 1st sets the stage for positive intentions to shift our need for security from the external to the internal. Through our clutter, we have been relying on outer sources of security for far too long. It is time to shift the focus to what is inside of us, and to examine the sources of fear, worry, anxiety, the need to know, the need to be right, and what we are so attached to that we are willing to suffer instead of taking a risk, letting go, and creating new space.

There are so many opportunities this month to turn the tide. It won’t be easy and it will take discipline but think of it as an adventure and embrace the excitement of this new landscape instead of being in fear of the change.

How the month shows up

You personally

This is a time of personal growth, self-reflection, truth telling and choice. You can get support from others but don’t expect others to do the hard work for you. This month you can truly change it up for yourself if you have the courage and discipline. Be present and pay attention to what irritates you. This will give you a clue about what needs to change. Avoiding unpleasant situations should be an action taken only after you have reflected on the lesson of that situation. Choose one thing at a time to change even if it is a very small one. Consider a permanent change and commit to doing what it takes to keep it permanent. Start with something easy.

It is also important this month to … continue reading
