What to Do When Ancient Home Remedies Don’t Work for You

Countless people swear by ancient remedies, relying on at-home options, essential oils, plants, and other more natural methods for healing an ailment. Though many of these things do work well for certain illnesses or particular pains, not everyone benefits from ancient treatments. When these cures fail to work for you, there are some other options available.

Surgery

ArthritisWhile certain oils may help with some mild pain, such as peppermint oil, it won’t help if there is a chronic or otherwise serious issue causing major pain.

A broken bone or body filled with arthritis cannot be cured with essential oils or home remedies. For example, if someone has unbearable pain in their hip caused by arthritis, a hip replacement surgery would be the right option to actually fix the problem and not just treat some of the symptoms of pain.

Anyone who tries other options and still has no pain relief, and has such terrible pain that it debilitates them and makes it difficult to remain mobile, should look into surgery as a treatment option.

Chiropractic Care

Many conditions get treated by chiropractic care. People experiencing back pain, neck pain, regular headaches, and even trouble focusing may be able to have their problem fixed through chiropractic.

Visit a local chiropractor to get an assessment and see if they can help. Chances are, at least some of the pain felt will be alleviated. Some chiropractors may recommend visiting a couple of times per week for the first weeks, and then dropping to once per week, in order to get the body back into proper alignment slowly over time so it isn’t a drastic change. After the problems seem to dissipate, they may then suggest a more routine pattern of once or twice a month as needed for relief.

The number of visits recommended will depend on the type of problem and the pain experienced by each individual.

Pain Medication

Pain medication may be required for more severe, chronic pain that won’t go away. It’s necessary to visit a doctor and have an assessment completed to determine the severity of the pain, the underlying problem, and discuss which options may be best.

A prescription will have to be provided by the doctor. Many laws are cracking down on the overuse of opiate prescriptions so the doctor may also recommend other treatment options, including home remedies, before administering anything.

Other Remedy Options

People who want to exhaust all of their options before resorting to surgery or pain medication can try other remedy choices. One ancient Chinese remedy is said to tame the symptoms of arthritis.

A herb known to most as Thunder God Vine helps with joint pain and inflammation. It’s just as effective as the medication, Methotrexate. Tripterygium wilfordii Hook F, the scientific name of the vine, which many simply refer to as TwHF, can help to treat the symptoms of even rheumatoid arthritis. This type affects around 1.5 million people in the U.S. alone.

Plenty people swear by ancient remedies. Those who do can continue to use them as they choose. If the ailment continues, however, it’s important to seek treatment from a doctor and find an alternative solution that will actually treat the problem and not just mask the symptoms. Many remedies may help with common colds, basic sickness, and minor pain, but are not equipped to handle more serious health struggles.
