Bear In Demby’s Kitchen

BearWe are located up in the Sierra Madre Canyon nestled in the San Gabriel mountain range with all kinds of animals, bears, mountain lions, hawks, snakes, raccoons, etc, you name it – and I still cannot believe what happened yesterday morning.

I leave the front door open at times because it creates a nice cool breeze throughout the house.  So I’m on the computer in the studio in the back of the house and I hear a noise in the kitchen and turn around to see a pretty good size brown bear in the kitchen, with his paws up on the counter, scrounging around looking for something to eat.

OmiGod…What th?

I get up, walk slowly toward him and say, “Well hi there! But what do you think you’re doing? You’re a bear and you don’t belong in here in a human house . . .  Go on now, get outta here!“

And I started moving very calmly and slowly towards him. He looked at me, understood the command,  got down on all fours and lumbered out the front door and down the street.

Wow!  I was thrilled and excited and just mind-blown. I watched as he sauntered down the road. Such a beautiful noble creature.

He was probably just looking for some berries, which he would have found if he knew how to open my refrigerator door. Meanwhile my cats were sniffing the scent, checking out all these interesting new odors.

Well that’s the report today from the Sierra Madre Canyon.

Such interesting times we’re living in these daze . . . .

Love to all,
Constance

  1. The humans can usually find ways to survive, altho these days it looks a bit sketchy for some. But the animals, they are our innocent children, I treasure them, and I will always treat them as part of my family and make sure they are safe and fed. Altho I wouldn’t know how to get berries to a Bear, bless his big beautiful heart… sigh!

  2. People have to realize that as the droughts continue, and get worse, and dry conditions kill off vegetation, then the animals will be come more bold and desperate. Be wary.
Also flood conditions bring them out too, especially the snakes.
